Windham Millwork is ready to begin construction on another big project in Augusta Maine. A $90M Maine Veterans’ Homes on a 44-acre site that is scheduled to be completed by 2021. The development is set to take place across the road from the MaineGeneral Alfond Center for Health, another project Windham Millwork was involved in.
The project calls for a 179,000-square foot, four building complex that will accommodate for approximately 138 residents. The design of the Maine Veterans’ Homes are based on a small-house concept that is meant to give residents privacy while still feeling connected with the community.
Each room will have small tables, desks, chairs and areas for residents to visit and have privacy and socialize comfortably in their rooms. Ground floor rooms will have a small patio area that will have raised garden beds in order to promote outdoor activities such as gardening.
Outside of the rooms will be a Village Center where residents can grab a cup of coffee, ice cream, gelato or visit the beauty salon. The Village Center will also contain a business center that looks like a bank. Aside from the living area, one of the buildings is planned to include a large rehab pool, gym and a more extensive multi-purpose room.
