Windham Millwork Joins the Fight: 40 Million Medical Swabs Monthly

Windham Millwork has been awarded the Puritan Medical Products project by Cianbro construction. The plant construction is set to take place IMMEDIATELY in Pittsfield, Maine. Reason being that this project has been funded by the Defense Act for PM to make approximately 40 million medical swabs monthly. This output would double the current supply being produced and could help improve the process in which individuals get tested for COVID-19.

The project demands an extremely aggressive schedule, one that Windham can perform and deliver on.  We are proud to be trusted on such an important project, one that will not only help Maine but all across the United States.  Our Team is ready for this challenge and will showcase the Windham Difference as a millwork supplier.

Women in Construction Week – 2020

Seeing that women represented only a fraction of the construction industry workforce, 16 women founded NAWIC to create a support network for others like themselves.  The objective of this dedicated week is to help support women in this field by raising awareness for those seeking a career in the construction industry.

We would like to thank Roger Varney for his 44 years of dedication to Windham Millwork Inc. His commitment and strong work ethic has contributed significant value to this company and we are grateful to have had such a positive influence around the shop.

Roger’s footprint on this company has paved an example for future generations of Windham Millwork employees. Working on multitudes of jobs, projects and passing on industry knowledge to other employees is what is to be expected. Rogers contributions to our company and daily operations will be sorely missed.

While we are saddened to see him go, we are confident that he will find the same success and happiness in retirement that he experienced during his time at Windham Millwork.

Wex Headquarters Close to Completion

Wex headquarters is close to completion in Portland after 18 months of construction. The new space will enable Wex to relocate approximately 400 employees to Portland where the company originally started.

Windham Millwork was involved on many aspects of this four story 105,000 square foot building. From cabinets, casework, countertops, kitchen areas and even a 10ft long fish tank that will be installed in the main employee break room. 

The new building will feature a number of amenities for Wex employees to enjoy. Some amenities include bike lockers, showers, indoor and outdoor dining and break areas, a rooftop patio for dining, recreation and events. The first floor of the new building will also feature a 5,000 square foot space for a restaurant. 

Wex has embraced the open-floor concept by incorporating large glass exterior paneling around the outside of the building. The floor plan calls for 90 percent of the office to be open floor by utilizing low cubicles. The other 10 percent of the space is designated for discrete offices.

Maine Veterans’ Homes Project Awarded to Windham Millwork

Windham Millwork is ready to begin construction on another big project in Augusta Maine. A $90M Maine Veterans’ Homes on a 44-acre site that is scheduled to be completed by 2021. The development is set to take place across the road from the MaineGeneral Alfond Center for Health, another project Windham Millwork was involved in. 

The project calls for a 179,000-square foot, four building complex that will accommodate for approximately 138 residents. The design of the Maine Veterans’ Homes are based on a small-house concept that is meant to give residents privacy while still feeling connected with the community.  

Each room will have small tables, desks, chairs and areas for residents to visit and have privacy and socialize comfortably in their rooms. Ground floor rooms will have a small patio area that will have raised garden beds in order to promote outdoor activities such as gardening. 

Outside of the rooms will be a Village Center where residents can grab a cup of coffee, ice cream, gelato or visit the beauty salon. The Village Center will also contain a business center that looks like a bank. Aside from the living area, one of the buildings is planned to include a large rehab pool, gym and a more extensive multi-purpose room.
